Petralona Cave
On the western part of Chalkidiki Peninsula, at the foothills of Mount Katsika, lies one of the most important caves in Greece, the second most visited ancient monument in Northern Greece. It is characterised by unique speleological, anthropological, palaeontological and archaeological wealth. Its stalactite decoration is impressive and its scientific importance is internationally known. One of the oldest and best-preserved human skulls in Europe was discovered there, along with Palaeolithic stone tools and a rich fossil fauna.
