Possidi | Kassandra Halkidiki
A beach of unique beauty is the beach “Miti”, or otherwise... “Ammoglossa” or otherwise “Akrotiri Posidi”, in front of the lighthouse of the cape. This is a natural phenomenon of sand deposition on the cape. The weather games in Posidi are incredible. Every afternoon the waters are pulled away and the peninsula widens, while in the morning a small tidal wave rains it again. Posidi is the beach of Kalandra and is widely known. The most characteristic of the area is the lighthouse, which has been installed for many years.

Built in 1864, the lighthouse stood very near to the water in its early days ... but now the sea has backed away. The sand stretch was formed later from piling up of sediments. This colonial styled lighthouse is still in use today and has a small flowery garden besides it, adding to its beauty.

Temple of Posidonos   |   in Posidi
The temple, which is the oldest temple of Poseidon, is Posidi, ... located in the area was called ancient Mendi. The temple was open for more than 1000 years, and there are references by Thucydides and Mount Athos documents of the 14th century. Probably built by people from Eretria, who stay at Mendi and had their prostate Posidona. The excavations revealed four major buildings: the main temple, two buildings on either side of the church and an arched building in the eastern part of this. The lattest, which is the oldest , dating from the Geometric period ( 11th-10th century BC.) . The floor is terracotta and the walls are of large pebbles. The other buildings dating from the 7th-6th BC century, while the nave from the 5th BC century. All buildings were devotional in nature and anywhere there are altars for sacrifices and sacred spaces for ceremonies.

Ancient Mendi   |   in Kalandra
Thoukidides refers to Ancient Mendi as a colony of Eretria, which was ... founded in Pallini, the most western peninsula in Halkidiki. The exact year of its foundation its not given, however the presence of Eretris and Halkidis in Northern Greece dates within the framework of the BÉ’ colonization, the 8th century b.c. The town owns its name to the aromatic plant peppermint (minthi), which is a particular type of peppermint and still grows in the area. The great economic growth, by the beginning of the 6th century, is confirmed by the circulation of currency and is mainly due to the exports of the famous Mendaios wine.

Petralona Cave   |   in Kassandra
On the western part of Chalkidiki Peninsula, at the foothills of ...      Mount Katsika, lies one of the most important caves in Greece, the second most visited ancient monument in Northern Greece. It is characterised by unique speleological, anthropological, palaeontological and archaeological wealth. Its stalactite decoration is impressive and its scientific importance is internationally known. One of the oldest and best-preserved human skulls in Europe was discovered there, along with Palaeolithic stone tools and a rich fossil fauna.

Church of Panagia Plastariotissa
Just outside this traditional village Kalandra is the Virgin Mary church, ... built in 1619, representing the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Another interesting church – Assumption – was erected in 1900, and it is the focal point for a fair honoring the Virgin, which is widely attended. The Temple of Poseidon, the third religious structure, is somewhat farther – on the Posidi beach – and is the oldest temple dedicated to this Greek deity. Also, if you put some effort, you can visit remains of an ancient Mendi settlement.
